What happened

On Tuesday 20 October 2026, Google announced new Gemini tools for small business owners. Vishnu Sivaji, Senior Director for the Gemini app, set out the changes on Google's blog, The Keyword.

The main addition is a business landing page in the Gemini app. Google says owners can use it to build their brand, analyse finances and understand customer insights "and more".

Google also says it will be easier to connect Gemini to Business Profile, Ads and Workspace, plus Adobe, Canva, Dropbox, Shopify, Wix, Zoho and Xero.

Two features get most of Google's attention. Owners can upload a website, brand kit, fonts or colour palettes to define their visual style. Gemini then uses Nano Banana 2.1, Google's latest image model, to make visuals for product launches or campaigns. It remembers the style, so you don't have to upload your guidelines each time.

For financial work, Gemini can turn messy spreadsheets and purchase records, including receipts, into financial graphics and interactive models.

Google's example is a US restaurant and butcher's shop owner. Between shifts, they use Gemini with a connected Google Business Profile to track local search and Maps performance. They also draft weekend updates tied to neighbourhood events.

Google says the new page, skills and connected apps "are beginning to roll out in the coming days globally for all Gemini app users". There's no UK-specific date in the post, and Google doesn't say which features need a paid plan. It points larger firms that want central admin controls and data governance towards "Gemini for your business", the Workspace offering.

What it means for a small business

If you already use Gemini, everyday marketing is a sensible place to try the new tools. Start with a social graphic in your own colours or a draft Google Business Profile update. It follows the Workspace side panel picking up HubSpot and other business apps last month.

Access is the catch. Connecting Xero, Shopify or Google Ads gives Gemini a view of your business finances and customer information, or access to your ad accounts. Google's post doesn't spell out what Gemini keeps or how each connected app's permissions work. I won't guess. Read the permission screen before connecting an app, and check your Gemini account settings.

Gemini can misread figures when making charts from receipts. Treat those charts as a first look at the figures. They aren't your books. Images made with Nano Banana 2.1 need a human check too: a polished picture can make wrong product details or an unsupported claim easy to miss.

Receipts and sales records uploaded to Gemini can contain personal data, as can customer lists. Think before uploading them, and check with your adviser if you're unsure.

Google says the rollout starts "in the coming days", so the tools may not appear in your account straight away.

What you can do this week

  1. When the business page appears in your Gemini app, upload your website or brand colours and make one social graphic. Put it next to what you'd normally post and decide honestly which is better.
  2. If you connect an app to Gemini, pick a low-risk one first, such as Canva or Google Business Profile. Connect one at a time. Read what access it asks for before you agree.
  3. Before giving Gemini receipts or a sales export, strip out customer names you don't need.
  4. Treat any Gemini financial chart as a draft. Check it against Xero or the figures from your accountant before you act on it.
  5. Agree with your staff which Google accounts, personal or work, they use for business data.
